Tangle Fun

I had an earlier version of this complicated, detailed silk on my Jill's Quills 2014 calendar and wanted to make another because someone was excited by the design. I barely had it finished and it was sold. Wow.

Tranquillity

I started this silk with the word Tranquillity written largely down the middle. Around the border I added some philosophy about how to achieve tranquillity and added the cartoon flowers. This silk is very springy, yet goes with any blues or purples. $80.00

BIG Tangles

Fun, springy colors with tangles that are larger. I love the color combinations. SOLD

Sea Dragon in Coral

Yes, another Sea Dragon. This is an experiment with a 'watery look' and the coral is made with thickened dyes and then outlined loosely with NeoOpaque (which isn't shown). $80.00

Bacon Silk (joke)

At Christmas, my family was here and my grandson saw a silk on the stretcher.  I had just painted a background that, to me, looked like a sunset.  He saw a very large piece of bacon.  After he said that that is all I could see too.  So I added some quills, the alphabet, and finally a dark red on top with salt.
It now can be worn with my new red jacket.  11x60" Sold.

Matching Red Jacket

For Christmas, Tauni gave me this dressy dark red, metallic jacket.  I decided I would like a silk to go with it.  The dark red was a real challenge, but I think this silk is complementary.  I tried to keep it simple (for me).  11x 60"  NFS at this time.

Triangle flowers

The order was:  Blues and Flowers.  I barely had time to take a photo before this one was sold.
11 x 60" I will make another one similar.

Nature Colors with ABC's

Yet again, I am playing with thickened dyes and just swishing the colors on with a sponge.  After the silk is steamed I added the lettering with a gold resist.   8 x 72" Sold.

Love Bugs

Another fun silk scarf.  This silks has little love bugs in a few spots, lots of other 'spots', and in general is bright and colorful.  As usual I have lettering around the border.  8 x 72"  $l00.00

The Denver Art Museum Demo Silk

This is the steamed, finished autumn silk that I made while demonstrating silk painting at the Denver Art Museum, 9/14/13.  It is 11 x 60", says, "The Leaves are falling, falling, fall. . ."  $120.00  I just love this one.

The Denver Art Museum, 9/14/13

SPUN, Silk Day at The Denver Art Museum, 9/14/13.  The Rocky Mt. SPIN members set up just outside of the D.A.M. main doors on the plaza.  The day was warm and sunny vs rainy and flooding.  I arrived at 9:15 and as soon as I set out my 2/3rd's finished silk on a frame, I had folks flocking by and asking questions.  My shift was from 10-12:00, but so many people were interested, that I just kept on talking, explaining and painting.  Some beautiful little models stopped by and posed for me with my silks.  Aren't they precious. The bottom photo is a mural set up by Jan Janus, my teacher and silk painting guru.  Folks could paint on it with natural dyes.  What a fine, fun day we had.

Peanut, Butter, & Jelly (Fish)

A 'J' storybook illustration using watercolor pencils.  5 x 7"  Peanut (Seahorse), Butter (Seahorse) and Jelly (Fish) are on a Sandwich Board.  This is from my class with Renee Jorgenson at The Summit, International Calligraphy Conference in Colorado Springs, July, 2012.  Awesome class.  NFS

Blue, Purple, Yellow Paste Paper Style

August, 2013. 8 x 72"  I am experimenting with painting on silk with thickened dyes in the paste paper style.  I have hundreds of paste paper paintings on paper (Arches Text Wove) which I use in my calligraphy projects; i.e. books, backgrounds, cards, etc.  Now I will show several silks in the same genre.  $40.00

Love Is a Rainbow of Chaos

11"x 60" silk inspired by the FDL Visual Artist group exhibit for the play 'RENT'.  The title is written on the whole silk with the lettering creating the visual spaces for the rainbow of colors.  This is a very vivid silk scarf.  Sold

Big Butterfly

35" x 35" Quillian butterfly.  Abstract green/blue background, writing on the border, a nice touch of color to add to your wall.  Traded to a special lady.

Fire-breathing Dragons II

This is the second in the series of fire-breathing dragons.  The top photo shows the true colors, the detail pic is washed out.  Sorry!  I just love doing lots of details on my silks and the resists allow that plus I love to do lots of color blending and mixing.  No color is straight from the bottle.  That makes the silk richer.  The other silk in this series is sold as is this one.

Flowers in the Dark

July, 2012 11"x"60" fun silk.  Late one evening I started doodling and drew some basic flowers.  Then I decided that I wanted to have a dark background.  The contrast is very nice.  Sold

Georgia O'Keeffe Quotes

This is a 35" x 35" silk that was inspired by an assignment by our FdL Visual Artist Group for the Georgia O'Keeffe themed art show in July, 2012.  Written across the whole scarf are many quotes by Georgia. I wanted to have flowing colors and quotes from Georgia.  She was a unique person with her own philosophy and chose to do her art 'her' way. Sold.  I do have a calligraphy piece full of Georgia O'Keeffe quotes, though.

Abstract Sunset

This is a 35"x 35" silk.  I started with a different plan, a commission from someone, and did not match the original layout, so I threw the silk (unsteamed) into the washing machine.  I am amazed at the amount of dye that remained in the silk after the wash.  Then I began to draw the landscape with my resist and this is the end result.  It really is powerful and has a written boarder.  Sold

Red, White & Black

For a show we were asked to submit art with red, black and white colors.  I took the challenge with a new 12 x 60" silk scarf. Lots of gold writing snuck into this design too. Some of the red turned more pink after steaming, but, all in all, it is a very nice scarf. Sold.
