Nature Colors with ABC's
Yet again, I am playing with thickened dyes and just swishing the colors on with a sponge. After the silk is steamed I added the lettering with a gold resist. 8 x 72" Sold.
Paste paper style Abstract
Just fun, bright colors here. This is done in my famous paste paper style with a sponge and thickened dyes. It looks 3-D, but, of course, isn't. 8 x 72" SOLD
Love Bugs
Another fun silk scarf. This silks has little love bugs in a few spots, lots of other 'spots', and in general is bright and colorful. As usual I have lettering around the border. 8 x 72" $l00.00

No Resist Falling Leaves
This silk has the approval of Jan Janus. I painted it with thickened dyes, no resists, and a few ladybugs.
It is a very subtle silk for my style. 8 x 72" SOLD
The Denver Art Museum Demo Silk
This is the steamed, finished autumn silk that I made while demonstrating silk painting at the Denver Art Museum, 9/14/13. It is 11 x 60", says, "The Leaves are falling, falling, fall. . ." $120.00 I just love this one.

The Denver Art Museum, 9/14/13
SPUN, Silk Day at The Denver Art Museum, 9/14/13. The Rocky Mt. SPIN members set up just outside of the D.A.M. main doors on the plaza. The day was warm and sunny vs rainy and flooding. I arrived at 9:15 and as soon as I set out my 2/3rd's finished silk on a frame, I had folks flocking by and asking questions. My shift was from 10-12:00, but so many people were interested, that I just kept on talking, explaining and painting. Some beautiful little models stopped by and posed for me with my silks. Aren't they precious. The bottom photo is a mural set up by Jan Janus, my teacher and silk painting guru. Folks could paint on it with natural dyes. What a fine, fun day we had.

A TASTE OF SILK; Silk Painting with Jill Quillian
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2013
CENTRAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 3690 CHERRY CREEK S DRIVE AT GARFIELD
Have you ever touched a full brush to a fabric (silk) and watched the color flow? It is a Zen moment. Exploring the magic and challenges of silk painting will be our class goal. Using liquid dyes from France, watercolor resists, and silk fabric as our painting surface, we will see dramatic serendipitous art appear before our eyes. Loose calligraphic lettering or forms may be part of our designs or not? We will paint a silk hoop, and one long scarf. We will discuss design, resist, painting, steaming and/or dye set.
Jill Quillian has spent her working career teaching--36 years in the elementary schools, recently retired. Jill has also taught many art classes, calligraphy classes, guild workshops, and provides individual instruction in the arts in her studio. She has taken Reggie's year long class and attended many, many conferences.
Her paste papers and other art can be seen in Diane Maurer-Mathisons's books, "The Handcrafted Letter," "The Art of Making Paste Paper," and "Handmade Cards." She is also published in "Encyclopedia of Calligraphy" by Janet Mehigan and Mary Noble. For further information, visit this blogspot or www.jillsquills1.com.
Class supply list: The teacher will supply silks, dyes, dye set and resist for a material fee of $25. Please bring: apron, rubber gloves, hair dryer, paper towels, eye droppers or pipettes, stainless steel push pins or silk pins, several containers for water, favorite watercolor brush, ( I use a large #12 and smaller #6), or sumi brushes and/or foam brushes. If you have an old, but clean foam board, foam core, 14"by14" bring it and we will use it to support small silk hoops. We will share whatever else is needed. I will bring extra brushes. Bring an extension cords also If possible.
REGISTER by October 5 so I can order materials. Send $50 (member) or $80 (non-member) to Ed Frfurth, 6721 E. Blue Jay Dr, Parker, CO 80139 or use PayPal. Material fee is $25 payable to Jill Quillian. Questions?

Peanut, Butter, & Jelly (Fish)
A 'J' storybook illustration using watercolor pencils. 5 x 7" Peanut (Seahorse), Butter (Seahorse) and Jelly (Fish) are on a Sandwich Board. This is from my class with Renee Jorgenson at The Summit, International Calligraphy Conference in Colorado Springs, July, 2012. Awesome class. NFS
Paste Paper Style Coral Reef
8 x 72" Photos do not show the true beauty of this silk. This was done in the paste paper style with no resist and the corals have depth and details. No resist except for the signature. SOLD
Paste Paper Sunset with Evergreens
8 x 72" Paste Paper style painting with thickened dyes. No resist except for my signature. This silk is very pretty and fun to wear. You can tie the ends together with tiny knots and make an infinity scarf.
$80.00
Another Wild Paste Paper
8 x 72" I learned a lesson here. One cannot put the resist on top of the thickened dyes. If you do, after steaming, it just falls off like spaghetti. The resist was applied after steaming, then it stayed put. Sold.
Flowers in Triangles
12 x 60" This painting just grew and sold itself in about a week. The interesting challenge I had with this silk is that the dye kept drying too fast before I got all the way around each triangle. I had to finally wet the area with water first to avoid a 'dry' line.
Blue, Purple, Magenta Tangles
8 x 72" Tangles. I just love creating these abstract silks. They are just so pretty. They go with lots of outfits too. $90.00
Paste Dragon from Class
My silk teacher is trying to get my to loosen up. This was an assignment in class. I used thickened dyes to draw the dragon and fill her in. After steaming the dragon, I added some gold resist to lighten up the dark lines. She is a nice dragon! 12 x 60" SOLD
Simple landscape with Quotes
8 x 72" Paste paper style landscape. The quotes are about nature. Sorry, the photos don't show the subtle writing at each color change. SOLD
Fall Colored Curly Cues
Rich colors, a touch of gold resist, mostly done with thickened dyes in the paste paper style. See the detail on some of the 'tails'. 8 x 72" SOLD
