Nature Colors with ABC's

Yet again, I am playing with thickened dyes and just swishing the colors on with a sponge.  After the silk is steamed I added the lettering with a gold resist.   8 x 72" Sold.

Paste paper style Abstract

 Just fun, bright colors here.  This is done in my famous paste paper style with a sponge and thickened dyes.  It looks 3-D, but, of course, isn't.  8 x 72" SOLD

The Denver Art Museum Demo Silk

This is the steamed, finished autumn silk that I made while demonstrating silk painting at the Denver Art Museum, 9/14/13.  It is 11 x 60", says, "The Leaves are falling, falling, fall. . ."  $120.00  I just love this one.

Paste Paper Style Coral Reef

8 x 72"  Photos do not show the true beauty of this silk.  This was done in the paste paper style with no resist and the corals have depth and details.  No resist except for the signature.  SOLD

Another Wild Paste Paper

8 x 72"  I learned a lesson here.  One cannot put the resist on top of the thickened dyes.  If you do, after steaming, it just falls off like spaghetti.  The resist was applied after steaming, then it stayed put.  Sold.

August, 2013. 8 x 72"  I am experimenting with painting on silk with thickened dyes in the paste paper style.  I have hundreds of paste paper paintings on paper (Arches Text Wove) which I use in my calligraphy projects; i.e. books, backgrounds, cards, etc.  Now I will show several silks in the same genre.  $40.00

My brother, Jack, takes a hike every week in CA. Then he sends amazing photos. I print them out with his permission and use them to create silk scarves. I had a lot of fun with all these images.  Sold!

Red, White & Black

For a show we were asked to submit art with red, black and white colors.  I took the challenge with a new 12 x 60" silk scarf. Lots of gold writing snuck into this design too. Some of the red turned more pink after steaming, but, all in all, it is a very nice scarf. Sold.

Dragonfly and Swishes

A new idea. Just put the detailed designs on the ends which will show more. The rest of the silk looks like the places the dragonflies have flown.   This silk won An Award of Excellence in the Fond du Lac Artist Association show. Sold.

Dragons in My Rock Garden

Another source of my art is outside art. These fun dragons are based on the design from a dragon paper punch. Then the design was cut out of plywood with a saw and then I painted them with acrylics. A marine spray was added to waterproof them and now they find a home in one of my many rock gardens. P.S. The rocks gardens feature rocks/minerals from my former home in the Black Hills. They include petrified wood, rose quartz, mica quartz, feldspar, blue quartz, granite and WI limestone.

Paper Sculpture

I took a class several summers ago in Chicago with Dave Wood who is from Australia and a master of paper sculpture art pieces. This piece is now framed in a 3-D box, but that is too hard to photograph. As you may be able to see (sea), my favorite theme of the ocean lends itself once again to my art. This is a sea dragon with a verse says, "Awakening in a moment of peace, I give thanks to the source of all peace. As I set forth into the day, the sea sings with a new voice and I listen with new ears and give thanks." Anon. copyright by Jill's Quills 2008  $250.00 framed

Using My AB Sea Shellphabet

This painting features an alphabet I invented using sea shells, coral, and drift wood to represent each letter. I then made copies of the shellphabet, and cut out the letters I needed with an x-acto knife, added shading and then applied them to my paste paper painting. I then made this into a birthday cards. Super fun!
