JANAS CLASS SILK

This is an experiment and a class story. Jan Janas was our teacher on April 22 and 23. Jan is a dynamic teacher and artist and she devised a plan to get us out of our 'comfort zone'. We started with 4 1"x1" squares(clipped from magazines) which we drew in the abstract. We chose our favorite and enlarged it to a 4"x 4" square. We shaded that, then cut it into strips and redrew our design. From there we took small sample pieces of silk and using different techniques, painted the design. The second day we took a 35"x35" silk and made the large design, modifying as we went. The top two photos are the end result and it is already SOLD.

Love Bugs

Another fun silk scarf.  This silks has little love bugs in a few spots, lots of other 'spots', and in general is bright and colorful.  As usual I have lettering around the border.  8 x 72"  $l00.00

No Resist Falling Leaves

This silk has the approval of Jan Janus.  I painted it with thickened dyes, no resists, and a few ladybugs.
It is a very subtle silk for my style.  8 x 72" SOLD

Leafy Pillow

Another pillow--lots of leaves and bugs. 14 x 14" $100  A zipper is built in for easy cleaning and removal.

Yellow with Red Flower

This is an older silk and only about 24 x 24" with a quote written into the lines of the design. There is really a lot of work in this piece. Sold.  I made a $35 x 35 commission of this design.

Your Name by Quills

I discovered that I wasn't using browns very much in my silk painting, so here tis. This is a quote about how important your name is and how your name makes you who you are. I added some quills to the ends. The quote defines the spaces for different colors. Sold.

Some more of Jack's flowers

My brother, Jack, takes a hike every week in CA. Then he sends amazing photos. I print them out with his permission and use them to create silk scarves. I had a lot of fun with all these images.  Sold!

Sunset Colors

Random swishes and colors. Very bright, goes with everything. I love how the colors blended. Sold.

Red, White & Black

For a show we were asked to submit art with red, black and white colors.  I took the challenge with a new 12 x 60" silk scarf. Lots of gold writing snuck into this design too. Some of the red turned more pink after steaming, but, all in all, it is a very nice scarf. Sold.

Peacock Silk

This silk was painted a few years ago and I just found the photo, so wanted to save it to the blog. It was painted on a brocade silk which already had a design in it, so it appears to be very complicated. 12x60" Sold (Oh, gee, I just found this again on my old blogs.) Guess I'll leave it.  Sold.

Close up of the parrot orchid

This close-up shows some of the detailing that is possible with silk painting.  I can mix colors, paint with dry brush, and add bold color or soft details.  I am very pleased with this silk painting.  I chose this subject from an e-mail photo.  The flower is rare and from Thailand.  It is 35" X 35" and is for sale.  I know you would just love to add this to your wall.  Soldl!
